Edgar Meyer

Edgar Meyer was born at Oak Ridge, Tennessee in November 1960. His principal musical experience as a child was learning to play the double bass -and he is still frequently referred to as 'bassist and composer', in that order. He has recorded extensively as a bassist, with lots of jazz recordings to his name especially.

As a composer, Meyer's music has been premiered and recorded by Emanuel Ax, Joshua Bell, Yo-Yo Ma, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Bela Fleck, Zakir Hussain, Hilary Hahn, and the Emerson String Quartet, among others. So not too shabby, then! The Nashville Symphony and the Aspen Music Festival and School commissioned his first purely orchestral work which was premiered by the Nashville Symphony in March 2017.
